Day One:

Depart Kigali to Goma, depending on your time of arrival, then cross the border to Congo. Spend the night at Ihusi hotel, located 100m from Goma/Gisenyi border.

Day Two:

Leave the hotel at 05.30am for Gorilla tracking in Bukima, park National des Virungas. Arrive at the park HQ at around 8:45 at the park HQ. You will first get a briefing, tracking starts by 9:30am. You will spend up to 3-4hrs or more tracking the gorillas and sometimes .once with the gorillas, you will only be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. Latest by 7:00pm you are back in Goma at the Hotel (one of the Hotels on Lake Kivu). Overnight: Ihusi hotel.

Day Three:

Early morning after breakfast you are taken around Goma that takes you up to the green lakes in Mugunga about 15km from Goma town. You will see how lava covered almost half of the town in 2002. By 9:00 am, you will be driven to the base of Mt. Nyiragongo one of the active volcanoes. Once at the base, you will be given a briefing and by 10:00am you will start your hike with some porters to carry your luggage. Nyiragongo is 3470m and it takes between 5 to 6 hrs to get to the top. At the top, its all camping don’t expect to take a shower, though there is a field pit latrine for nature’s call. At night, you will be able to see the boiling magma.

Day Four:

Early morning, you retrace your steps down the volcano. You will be picked at the base and transfer to the hotel for lunch. The whole afternoon you will relax at your hotel and enjoy nice view of Lake Kivu.

Day Five:

Early morning after breakfast, drive back to Kigali for your flight.
