Nine Days Niger Holiday

The highlight of this holiday is the Gerewol Festival which takes place every September where nomadic clans from the Niger region come together in the middle of the country for massive celebrations comprising of feasts, camel races, markets, and Male Beauty contests and is the largest in the region.

 

Day One: Arrival in Niamey

Upon arrival in Niamey, the guide from Afrikan Wildlife Safaris will welcome you and then transfer you to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Ronier Hotel.

Day Two: Niamey to Konni

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Birmin Konni and Tahoua. En route, you will have several stops for a spectacular photo opportunity. Dinner and overnight at Motel Konni.

Day Three: Tahoua to Abalak (Gerewol Site)

Today, you will drive to Abalak for a Gerewol festival. It is an annual courtship ritual competition among the Wodaabe Fula people. Young men make up in traditional painting and ornamentation. They gather in formations to dance and sing vying for the attention of marriageable young women. Dinner and overnight at Tuareg Tents Campement Bororo.

Day Four: Gerewol Festival

For this day, it will be a full days attendance at the Gerewol festival. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Day Five: Gerewol Festival

Another full days attendance at the Gerewol festival. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Day Six: Abalak to Agadez

On this day, we will drive from Abalak to Agadez. We arrive in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Hotel de la Paix.

Day Seven: Agadez

This morning, you will visit the ancient city of Agadez including the Camel market, handy craft, sultan’s palace, and the famous mosque of Agadez. Dinner and overnight at Hotel de la Paix.

Day Eight: Agadez to Konni

Today after breakfast, you will visit the historic Centre- Konni, which was small pre-colonial Hausa state.  You will also visit the big market. Dinner and overnight at Motel Konni.

Day Nine: Konni to Niamey and fly out

After breakfast, we will visit the giraffes in their natural habitant. Then head to Niamey and to the airport to fly back home.
